What Is Low Vision?
Low vision is a term used to describe significant vision loss that cannot be fully corrected with standard glasses, contact lenses, surgery, or medications. It is often caused by eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, cataracts, or stroke-related vision loss (hemianopsia).
People with low vision may experience blurred vision, blind spots, or a narrowed field of view, making daily activities like reading, cooking, driving, using a computer, or watching TV challenging. With proper low vision care, many patients can maximize their remaining vision and regain confidence in everyday life.

Dr. Roderick D. Fields
Dr. Roderick Fields is the Clinical Director of Southern Low Vision. In 2006 Dr. Fields retired from his busy practice to dedicate the rest of his career to helping patients with low vision. He has established multiple satellite offices throughout the entire state of Mississippi and North Alabama.
When a patient with low vision contacts Southern Low Vision, Dr. Fields personally calls the patient or their caretaker to personally discuss their individual situation and advise them what can be done to help, and also discusses the fees involved and potential costs of low vision devices that might help them.
